Hunt The Night

Have had the 50 R now for a couple of months, Took a little bit of time to zero it for 3 rifles, 22 mag, 223 and 243. Worth spending the time to get it dead right with the ballistic calculator. Now all 3 rifles are shooting laser beams. Have been able to identify animals out to 1.5 km with ease. When shooting partner could not see any rabbits in a paddock I counted 20 and head shot them out to 194 yards. Thermal is game changing. External battery life is quite short so buy a few extra to take into the field. Quick release mount worth the money as well.

Needed a bipod urgently. Paid by 2pm and in my hand in Canberra the next morning at 9am!

I already own the thermal version (DNT ThermNight TNC635R on a 243) and wanted a cheaper option on my 17HMR for shorter ranges on bunnies and foxes. Problem solved! I now use a thermal monocular for identifying targets and the Zulus does the rest. At the ranges I am shooting at night (under 100m) the thermal is not needed once I have identified the target with the monocular and the built in IR torch works the same as on the significantly more expensive sibling. Battery life is great and with the 2 batteries in the kit you can go all night. The digital day vision is crisp and clear and the integrated laser range finder and ballistic calculator works perfectly. I especially appreciated the ease of use: sighting in, using the range finder and configuring the ballistic calculator are all easy tasks and the menu system is identical to the DNT ThermNight TNC635R. I thoroughly recommend this unit as a great starter to get into night hunting.
